Many moms tell me that their child suffers from constipation. They also tell me that their child is a picky eater. So the question that follows is: do these two go together?
There are many factors important in relieving constipation, but there are three factors that are very important:
- drinking plenty of water every day (in this post I talk about 8 tips to help children drink more water
- eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in water and fiber every day (I share here my top 20 fruits and vegetables that help our children poop and I also share here my top 15 of foods rich in fiber)
- moving as much as possible every day
If any of these factors are deficient, then the child has a high possibility of suffering from constipation.
Many picky eaters refuse most fruits and vegetables, eat a very small amount of them, and eat a high amount of processed foods.
Many children (picky eaters or not) do not drink enough water. Many children also sit for long periods of time in front of the TV or the computer.
So the answer to the question “Do constipation and picky eaters go together?” is likely yes.
A big part of the solution is to help our children be less picky eaters, drink more water, and move as much as possible.
What about your child? Does she/he suffer from constipation? Do you think one of the above factors is involved? Is your child a picky eater?
